Canadian Foreign Minister announced new sanctions against Russia "very soon"

Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said that Western countries will soon announce new sanctions against Russia.

She announced this, according to Reuters, during a visit to Romania.

"We together with Romania through the EU have introduced very important, strict sanctions, and more sanctions will be announced very soon," Joly said, adding that G7 countries and the European Union are considering further restrictions, but did not specify what kind of restrictions she was talking about.

According to her, the goal of the sanctions is to strangle Russia's economy and force it to change course in Ukraine.

For his part, Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu said that various options for restrictions are being discussed.

As reported, on Tuesday, the EU European Commission will present proposals on how the EU plans to quickly get rid of dependence on Russian oil and gas.

The U.S. secretary of state had also previously spoken openly about the possibility of banning Russian oil imports, which President Volodymyr Zelensky had previously requested.
