Putin stopped listening to intelligence - Forbes

Russian President Vladimir Putin has stopped listening to his intelligence because of the failure of the military in an attempt to capture Ukraine. This was reported by the German edition of Forbes.

According to Russian intelligence expert Andrei Soldatov, the war in Ukraine began when Putin publicly humiliated the head of foreign intelligence, Sergey Naryshkin.

The publication also reports on punitive measures taken against the FSB intelligence unit: General Sergei Besed and another intelligence officer were questioned and put under house arrest; Rosgvardia deputy head Roman Gavrilov was sent to retirement.

It is alleged that these cases are related to the fact that the war in Ukraine did not go the way Russia had hoped, and the Kremlin blames it on intelligence.

According to Soldatov, Putin sticks to his beliefs about Ukraine and constantly broadcasts them in Russia as well as outside of Russia, which makes it a big challenge to report disappointing news to the head of the Kremlin, which no one dares to do.

Putin has also stopped listening to intelligence because he is convinced that he himself knows more about Ukraine than anyone else.

"Among all the people in the security apparatus, he apparently listens only to Defense Minister Shoigu and maybe as far back as Security Council Secretary Patrushev," Soldatov said.

In addition, he added that he was surprised by the fact that the Rosgvardiya was sent to Ukraine. Soldatov believes that the Russian Federation was really counting on the fact that in Ukraine it would only have to allegedly suppress protests among "nationalist gangs."

"The fault lies with the Rosgvardia special forces fighters, who are not fighting correctly, and also people in the FSB did not prepare the pro-Russian underground and Naryshkin gave him the wrong report. Something along those lines," Soldatov stated.
