Ukraine and Moldova agree on creating new transit routes and expanding export potential - Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said at a briefing in Kyiv with Moldovan President Maia Sandu that Ukraine and Moldova have agreed to create new transit routes and expand the export potential of both countries.

"We agreed to create new transit routes, to expand our export potential. We will do this in particular by improving border crossings between our states," Zelensky said Monday.

As the head of state noted, he discussed with Sandu the opposition to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the issue of the Transnistrian settlement.

"Ukraine is the guarantor of this settlement, and we will actively help Moldova further," he said.

The interlocutors also discussed energy cooperation. "After the successful connection of the Ukrainian and Moldovan energy systems to the European energy system, we have many new opportunities to work in the EU energy market - and for bilateral cooperation. Our common task is to use these opportunities to the maximum," Zelensky said.

The President also confirmed Ukraine's readiness to help Moldova reconstruct its railroad. The parties agreed to start reconstruction of the Berezina-Basarabeasca railway section in order to enhance the transport potential of both countries.

Zelensky thanked the Moldovan side for its decision to send a demining unit to Ukraine to help with demining and for helping Ukrainians who have sought refuge from the Russian war in Moldova.
