NATO officially recognized Russia as a strategic threat

NATO countries have identified Russia as the most significant and direct threat to the Alliance's security. This is stated in the new strategic concept adopted today in Madrid. This document is concluded until 2030.

"The Russian Federation is the most significant and immediate threat to the security of the Allies and to peace and stability in the Euro-Atlantic region," the strategy says.

Thus, the previous version, published in 2010, called Russia a partner, but this time this wording was abolished.

Now Russia is a threat not only to Ukraine but also to the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance.

It is noted that NATO will respond to Russia's hostile actions by strengthening the defense of all allies.

At the same time, the strategy also states that China is challenging the bloc's interests, security and values and seeks to undermine the rules-based international order.
