Moldova is afraid of a Russian attack if Odesa is seized

In Moldova, there is concern about the possibility of an extension of the ground war in Ukraine towards Odesa. Chisinau explains such fears by its proximity to the separatist region of Transnistria, where the Russian military are located. This was stated by Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa in an interview with CNN.

She spoke about the turbulent history of the country and Moldova's obtaining of the EU candidate status. The official said that Moldova does fear a war scenario with Russia.

"We are concerned. Of course, there is a risk, but for now it is a hypothetical scenario. However, if hostilities move to the southwest of Ukraine and toward Odesa, of course we will be very concerned, especially given the fact that there are (Russian - ed.) troops on the territory of Transnistria. We are doing everything possible to preserve peace and stability and to ensure that hostilities do not escalate," the prime minister said.

The official also believes that if Russia can start a war for the annexation of Ukrainian territories, while despising the norms of international order, then in fact no one is immune from it.

We shall remind you that earlier, the authorities of the unrecognized Transnistria declared their desire to gain independence and integrate into the Russian Federation.
