Sports isolation of Russia after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine is gaining momentum. The national team there will be forced to miss the 2024 European football championship.
This was announced by the president of the Ukrainian Football Association, Andriy Pavelko, according to a Facebook post by the official.
The head of the UAF reacted to the Russian Football Union's attempts to disqualify the head coach of the Ukrainian national team. Officials of the aggressor state accused Oleksandr Petrakov of "discriminating against Russians".
Pavelko called the complaint of the RFS "hysterical", which is not worth the slightest attention. According to him, UEFA considered the request of the Russians and announced a warning and a small fine to the association. In addition, the official shared bad news for the RFS.
"At the same time, the Russians simply have nothing to prepare for. As they demanded, the Russian Federation will not be in Frankfurt, Germany on October 9. And at the very least, they won't see official international football competitions until 2024!" - wrote Pavelko.
The draw for qualifying for Euro 2024 is scheduled for the second Sunday of October. UEFA will divide the European national teams into 10 qualifying groups. The two best teams from each group will qualify for the European Championship.
By the way, goalkeeper Volynets will not be able to debut for the national team in Scotland due to visa problems.
