The Security Service of Ukraine was headed by Vasyl Malyuk, who served as the head of the department after the dismissal of Ivan Bakanov, and was previously his first deputy. The decision to appoint Malyuk was made today at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada.

 It is known that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Secretary of the NSDC Oleksiy Danilov and Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin were present at the vote.

 The biography of the 39-year-old head of the SSU includes dozens of years of experience in state security agencies, the position of deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, participation in anti-terrorist operations and the rank of brigadier general.

 

 Vasyl Vasyliovych Malyuk is from Zhytomyr Region (Korostyshiv). Graduated from the National Academy of the Security Service of Ukraine, majoring in "Jurisprudence". Has the degree of candidate of legal sciences.

 

 In 2001, he began his military service in the state security agencies. He held positions from operational commissioner to head of the anti-corruption and organized crime department in the regional offices of the SSU. In 2020, he transferred to the Central Department of the SSU.

 

 On March 13, 2020, Vasyl Malyuk became the first deputy head of the Security Service of Ukraine - the head of the Main Directorate for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime.

 

 On July 26, 2021, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi dismissed Malyuk and several other deputy heads of the SSU. The head of state explained the personnel changes as preparation for the reform of the special service.

 

On February 16, 2022, Vasyl Malyuk was appointed to the position of First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denys Monastyrskyi. However, he worked at the Ministry of Internal Affairs for a short time. After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he returned to the SSU.

 

 On March 3, by presidential decree, Malyuk was again appointed as the first deputy head of the Security Service of Ukraine. On March 25, he received the rank of brigadier general.

 

 After the removal of Ivan Bakanov and his dismissal, from July 18, 2022, Vasyl Malyuk became the temporary head of the SSU.

 

 Vasyl Malyuk is a combatant, has a state award "For participation in an anti-terrorist operation".

 

 The decision to appoint Ihor Klymenko as the new Minister of Internal Affairs was made today at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada.

 

 "The Council has appointed I.V. Klymenko to the post of Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine," wrote People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

 

 According to him, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal represented the newly appointed head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

 

 321 people's deputies voted for the appointment of Klymenko.

 

 What is known about Ihor Klymenko

 

 Ihor Volodymyrovych Klymenko was born in 1972 in Kyiv. After graduating from Kharkiv Military University in 1994, Klymenko went to serve in the army. In 2013, he defended his candidate's thesis in psychology, in 2019 - his doctoral thesis.

 

 Klymenko's service in the internal affairs bodies began in 1998. He took his first high position in 2015, heading the personnel support department of the National Police of Ukraine.

 

 Two years later, Klymenko was appointed the deputy head of this department, and in 2019 he became the head of the National Police of Ukraine.

 

 Change of the Minister of Internal Affairs

 

 At the beginning of 2023, on January 18, a terrible tragedy occurred in Brovary. The helicopter of the State Emergency Service fell directly on one of the residential neighborhoods of the city. As a result of the accident, 14 people died, including a child and the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who was on board the helicopter.

 

 Among the heads of the ministry, the minister, the first deputy minister and the state secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were killed.

 

 In connection with the tragedy, the causes of which are being investigated to this day, the government appointed the head of the National Police, Ihor Klymenko, as the deputy minister of internal affairs and entrusted him with the duties of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
