The State Duma of Russia denounced the agreement with Ukraine on the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait

The State Duma of Russia voted to denounce the agreement between Russia and Ukraine on cooperation in the use of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait, rosZMI reports.

This treaty between Russia and Ukraine was signed in Kerch on December 24, 2003 in the city of Kerch and entered into force on April 23, 2004. The document emphasizes that the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait are historically internal waters of Ukraine and Russia and that the Sea of Azov is demarcated by the state border line in accordance with the agreement.

In Russia, they are trying to explain their decision by the fact that due to the occupation of parts of the Donetsk, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions, Ukraine allegedly "lost the status of a coastal state in relation to these water areas."

In February 2023, the Verkhovna Rada denounced all agreements with Russia on the Sea of Azov.
