Australia is ready to hand over decommissioned fighter jets to Ukraine

Australia is discussing with the USA the possibility of transferring F/A-18 Hornets fighters to Ukraine.

The Australian Financial Review writes about this, referring to its sources.

As noted, the US does not object to the transfer of aircraft. At the same time, the condition of the transfer is the use of fighters exclusively in the airspace of Ukraine.

The Royal Australian Air Force planned to scrap 41 F/A-18 Hornets. They were planned to either be scrapped or sold for use as training aircraft.

At the same time, it is not known whether all these planes are capable of further operation. A source at The Australian Financial Review admits that some of the planes are only suitable for disassembly.

The F/A 18-Hornet is an American carrier-based fighter-bomber and attack aircraft developed in the 1970s. It is currently discontinued, but is in service with the USA, Canada, Australia, Spain, Switzerland, Finland, Kuwait and Malaysia.

It will be recalled that in March Ukraine turned to Finland with a proposal to discuss the possible transfer of Hornet fighter jets to Ukraine. However, the Ministry of Defense of Finland refused this request, saying that the Hornet fighters will be used by the Finnish Defense Forces for the next few years, after which their life cycle of about three decades will come to an end.
