Kolomoisky faces new charges: embezzled UAH 5.8 billion

Oligarch Ihor Kolomoisky is facing new suspicions related to the alleged illegal possession of 5.8 billion hryvnias, the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine reports.

Law enforcement agencies have brought additional charges against Kolomoisky under several articles of the Criminal Code. He is accused of illegal actions with means of access to bank accounts, as well as misappropriation of property through abuse of office with the participation of an organized group of people. He is also accused of money laundering.

The investigation claims that between 2013 and 2014, Kolomoisky illegally seized UAH 5.8 billion by organizing a criminal group of bank employees in which he was a founder and shareholder. During this period, members of the group fictitiously "deposited cash into the bank's cash register" despite the absence of real deposits. This allowed Kolomoisky to receive the said amount, which was then transferred to his personal account.

To legalize these assets, Kolomoisky used various methods, including bringing them into business, lending them as loans and repaying them under loans granted to companies under his control, as well as taking them abroad, cashing them in and withdrawing them from bank branches.
