Zelensky called for Russia's removal from the UN Security Council

Before his speech at the UN General Assembly, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for the exclusion of Russia from the Security Council, Tagesschau reports.

In his statement, Zelenskyy criticized the UN for allowing Russia to retain its powers despite waging war against Ukraine.

The president said that the international community "still has - it's a shame, but still - a place for Russian terrorists."

As a reminder, Russia has the status of a permanent member of the UN Security Council and has the right of veto.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is also expected to speak at the UN General Assembly.

When asked whether Zelenskyy would stay in the hall and listen to Lavrov's speech, the president replied: "I don't know how it will be, I really don't know."
