Latvia prepares to close two border crossing points on the border with Russia

Latvian authorities have drafted a government decree aimed at closing two border crossings on the border with Russia. The Latvian Ministry of Internal Affairs provided information about this in the Delfi publication.

According to this draft, starting from October 16, 2023, citizens holding Ukrainian passports and arriving from EU countries will be able to enter the territory of the Russian Federation only through two border crossings, one of which is the Vientuli checkpoint located on the border between Latvia and Russia.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs expressed concern, arguing that this decision by Russia could create conditions that could seriously affect public order and threaten Latvia's national security.
