Pavel Durov announces new security measures in Telegram: details

Starting April 1, users in Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus will be able to limit the number of people who can send them personal messages on Telegram. This was announced by the messenger's founder Pavel Durov.

"Four days ago, Russian-speaking Telegram users began to complain about messages from strangers calling for terrorist attacks. Within an hour of receiving such complaints, we took a number of technical and organizational measures to prevent this activity," Durov wrote.

According to him, as a result, tens of thousands of attempts to send such messages were stopped, and thousands of users who "participated in this flash mob faced permanent blocking of their Telegram accounts."

"From the beginning of next week, all users from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus will be able to limit who can send them personal messages. We are also implementing solutions based on artificial intelligence to filter such spam even more effectively," Durov said.

He also emphasized that Telegram is not a place for spam and calls for violence.

It should be noted that earlier the Russian authorities reported mass mailing of calls to commit a terrorist attack on the territory of the Russian Federation.
