Russia is considering the possibility of Turkish ombudsman's access to Ukrainian prisoners of war - Lubinets

Russia is considering whether to allow the Turkish ombudsman to visit Ukrainian prisoners of war on the territory of the aggressor country. This was reported by Human Rights Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets on Radio Liberty.

"Let's just say that this is another element of our tactics to change the situation with the violation of the rights of prisoners of war in the Russian Federation. Again, you have seen only the public position. He (the Turkish Ombudsman - ed.) came to Ukraine, he announced his intention to visit the territory of the Russian Federation. We have been working on this for many months," Lubinets said.

He noted that at first the meetings were non-public, during which the question of whether the Turkish Ombudsman was ready to do this was discussed.

"I would like to thank my Turkish colleague for not just agreeing. He personally came for four days, despite the fact that they saw that, on the one hand, the entire territory of Ukraine was under constant shelling, and, on the other hand, they had and still have the holy month of Ramadan. But he came," the Ukrainian ombudsman emphasized.

He said that after his return, his colleague informed him that two days after his return, he had his first contact, a discussion with the Russian side.
