US Congressmen call to allow strikes on Russia with American weapons

In the United States, a group of congressmen from both parties appealed to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to speed up the supply of weapons to Ukraine. They also expressed “strong support” for granting permission to use weapons for strikes on Russian territory. This is stated in a letter published by the Intelligence Committee of the US House of Representatives.

As stated in the letter, the restrictions imposed by the United States do not allow Ukrainian forces to push back the Russians in the Kharkiv region with the help of American-made weapons.

US lawmakers believe that Ukrainians cannot effectively defend themselves because of the Biden administration's policies. As of May 21, 13 congressmen have signed the appeal.

“It is extremely important that the Biden administration allow Ukraine's military leadership to be able to conduct the full range of operations necessary to respond to an unprovoked Russian attack on their sovereign territory,” the letter reads.

Representatives of both parties also asked to increase the number of Ukrainian pilots trained by the United States on F-16 fighters. They add that, according to the US Air Force, the United States will complete training for only 12 pilots in 2024.
