German economics minister admits complete shutdown of Nord Stream-2 because of threats to Ukraine

German Minister of Economics and Climate Protection Robert Habek said that the issue of approval of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline must be solved in accordance with the law. But he admits the possibility of stopping the project because of threats to Ukraine.

"This means that despite the situation in eastern Ukraine and the Russian troop build-up there, political decisions will have to be made as to what sanctions may be imposed in the event of a new acute conflict," Habek said.

 

He admits the possibility of stopping the project because of threats to Ukraine.

 

According to Habek, the construction of the pipeline may divert the attention of the West from Ukraine as a gas transit country. It is necessary to counteract this by supporting the transition of Kiev to renewable energy sources, he said, adding that the ministry, which he heads, will allocate 150 million euros for this purpose.

 

Recall, in Russia declared the readiness to work "Nord Stream-2".

 

Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that Nord Stream-2 will be ready by the end of this year, and its certification may be completed in mid-2022.
