Attacks on ambulances and hospitals are increasing rapidly in Ukraine - WHO

The World Health Organization reported that attacks on hospitals, ambulances and other medical facilities have increased significantly in Ukraine in recent days.

This is reported by Reuters.

As the World Health Organization said on March 8, attacks on hospitals, ambulances and other medical facilities have increased in recent days. The country also lacks vital medical supplies.

The U.N. confirmed that there have been 16 attacks on medical facilities and nine deaths since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began.

Catherine Smallwood, a senior WHO emergency official in Europe, told a briefing that the count included cases in which ambulances were used for purposes other than medical emergencies.

"We will continue to update those numbers. They've been increasing pretty rapidly over the last few days," Smallwood said.

The WHO is also working to get medical supplies to Ukraine as soon as possible, which is running out of oxygen, insulin, personal protective equipment, surgical supplies and blood products. This was told by the Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge.

Note that a hospital was destroyed today in Izyum, Kharkov region, during shelling by Russian troops.

"I thought the gates of hell had closed, but it turned out to be only the first floor. This is the emergency room of our Central City Hospital. Probably another secret NATO base. The patients got out from under the rubble as best they could," wrote Izyum deputy mayor Vladimir Matsokin.
