EU plans to provide military support to Moldova - Michel

The European Union plans to help Moldova strengthen its military power against the threat posed by Russia. European Council President Charles Michel voiced this intention during a meeting with Moldovan President Maia Sandu. This is reported by The Guardian.

"We will help Moldova strengthen its resilience and cope with the consequences of Russian aggression in Ukraine. Last year we announced €7 million in support for equipment for the army's medical and domestic needs through the EU peacekeeping mechanism. This year, we plan to significantly increase our support for Moldova by providing its armed forces with additional military equipment," the head of the European Council said.

Later, Moldova's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration stressed that the EU has no plans to provide them with lethal weapons as part of its military support.

"In the field of defense, Moldova receives assistance from the EU through the European Peace Facility (European Pace Facility). Six areas of interest have been identified for the near future: military logistics, mobility, command and control, cyber defense, situation monitoring and tactical communications," the ministry specified.
