Zelensky discussed with Michel the need to immediately unblock the Ukrainian ports

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed with the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, who is on a working visit to Odesa, measures to unblock Ukrainian ports for the export of wheat.

"Talked with the President of the European Council Charles Michel, who is visiting Odesa. It is important to prevent a food crisis in the world caused by Russia's aggressive actions. It is necessary to take immediate measures to unblock Ukrainian ports for the export of wheat," Zelensky wrote in his Telegram channel.

The head of state also thanked Michel for the EU's constant support for Ukraine.

At the same time, according to Zelensky's press service, he stressed that Ukraine expects to adopt the next packages of sanctions against the aggressor country.

"I'm sure that the six sanctions packages of the EU and the world will not be limited to. But it is not the number of these packages that matters, but their effectiveness. I am convinced that the main result is to have peace in our land, and therefore - in Europe," said Zelensky.

In turn, the head of the European Council stressed that wheat must be available to all people in the world, so that hunger would not spread around the planet. He also gave assurances that the EU would continue to provide Ukraine with maximum financial and defence assistance. According to him, the EU has already approved a support plan for Ukraine.

"There must be a 'Marshall Plan' for your initiatives. We have to mobilize global support so that you can deal with humanitarian challenges and work, start rebuilding Ukraine's economy," Michel said.

He also said that in June the European Council will consider Ukraine's application for EU candidate status, noting that the Ukrainian people today are fighting not only for their homeland, but also for the common European values of democracy and freedom.
