The European Commission will recommend granting Bosnia the status of a candidate for EU membership - mass media

Bosnia and Herzegovina should become the next official candidate for joining the EU after Ukraine and Moldova.

The German publication writes about it.

The European Commission intends to recommend to the heads of state and government of the EU to declare Bosnia-Herzegovina as a candidate for EU membership as soon as possible.

This comes from the so-called report on the progress of countries wishing to join the EU, which is prepared annually and is due to be officially presented on Wednesday.

According to the report, Bosnia and Herzegovina has not yet met all of the 14 necessary reform priorities, but has made "substantial" progress.

As in the case of Ukraine and Moldova, which were officially named as candidate countries on June 23, Bosnia and Herzegovina will still have to complete a number of reforms before concrete negotiations on EU accession can begin with the opening of the so-called negotiating chapters.

However, as an official accession candidate, the country already receives large sums of financial support from Brussels under so-called pre-accession assistance.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has already applied to join the EU in 2016. In 2003, the country received a promise to join the EU together with other countries of the Western Balkans.
