The nuclear agreement and the war against Ukraine: Blinken disclosed the details of the negotiations with Lavrov

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken held talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov today, March 2. One of the topics of discussion was the war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine.

As CNN reports, the head of the State Department stated this during a press conference.

According to the American official, he called on Russia to stop the war against Ukraine and start peace talks. Blinken also confirmed the US support for Ukraine.

"Every G20 member, and virtually every country in general, continues to bear the costs associated with Russia's aggressive war," Blinken said.

At the same time, he added that he called on Lavrov to cancel the irresponsible decision to suspend Russia's participation in the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty.

"Mutual compliance with the treaty is in the interests of both our countries. It is also what people around the world expect from us as nuclear states," said the head of the State Department.

Blinken said that he assured Lavrov of the readiness of the United States to interact with Russia in matters of control over strategic nuclear weapons "regardless of what is happening in the world and in relations between countries."

It will be recalled that a previously unnamed official of the State Department said that Blinken held the first talks with Lavrov on the sidelines of the G20 summit in New Delhi since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
