The network of cryptocurrency exchangers was eliminated: the National Police worked together with the FBI

The joint efforts of the National Police of Ukraine and the FBI have eliminated a network of services for the exchange of criminally obtained cryptocurrency. This is reported by the Cyber Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine.

"Employees of the Cyber Police Department together with the Main Investigative Department of the National Police, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine and in cooperation with the FBI of the United States of America conducted a multi-level international operation to eliminate nine virtual asset exchange services," the message reads.

As mentioned, the group of services provided an opportunity for cybercriminals to legalize assets mined as "ransoms" from attacks by encryption viruses. The network was destroyed during an international police operation.

The sites offered users an anonymous exchange of cryptocurrency with the aim of facilitating the legalization and laundering of money obtained illegally. Through exchanges, attackers channeled assets obtained from malware attacks (cryptoviruses) and online fraud. These services were advertised on closed hacker forums.

As a result of the operation, law enforcement officers managed to block the infrastructure of the network, which was located on servers in the United States of America, European countries, and Ukraine. Domain names have been removed.

Currently, the process of identifying those involved in criminal activity is underway.
