Russia will sooner or later want negotiations with Ukraine - General Milli

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, Mark Milley, believes that it is not easy for Ukraine and Russia to achieve their political goals through military means.

He said this in an interview with Foreign Affairs.

According to the American general, sooner or later the Russian side will understand that the losses exceed the benefits and this may be the beginning of negotiations.

Milli noted that Russia has already suffered serious losses in the war it started. In addition, the Russian economy has been seriously affected by the sanctions.

"And I think rational people involved in the decision-making process in Russia will come to the conclusion -- maybe in a few months, a year or two -- but they're going to come to the conclusion that the costs outweigh the benefits," Milley said.

He emphasized that Russia will have to admit that it will not be able to win this war.

Milli added that he doubted the possibility of ending the war this year.

It will be recalled that on April 19, British Defense Minister Ben Wallace said that he was confident of Ukraine's counteroffensive against Russian troops, but made it clear that the war would most likely continue next year.

It was previously reported that the US would send Ukraine additional military aid worth about $300 million, including a large number of artillery shells, howitzers, air-to-surface missiles and ammunition.
