There is an alternative: EU made a statement on restrictions on grain imports from Ukraine

European Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis has called on Poland, Hungary and Slovakia to lift the unilateral restriction on grain imports from Ukraine. The EU has developed alternative mechanisms that will help protect European farmers from the surplus of Ukrainian products. This was announced by the European Commissioner during a debate at the European Parliament's Committee on Agriculture on February 12.

Valdis Dombrovskis recalled the measures that the European Commission has already introduced for frontline countries regarding imports from Ukraine, such as grain, corn and sunflower seeds.

He emphasized that unilateral restrictions should be lifted, as they violate EU competence and free trade agreements.

Dombrovskis also noted that the European Commission has proposed autonomous trade measures for countries affected by Ukrainian exports, including quotas for "sensitive products" such as eggs, sugar and sunflower oil.

He also recalled the relevance of "solidarity corridors" to support countries affected by the resumption of exports from Ukraine through the Black Sea.
