Discussions on supply of Gripen fighters to Ukraine continue, - Swedish Defense Minister

Swedish Defense Minister Paul Jonson said that the country does not rule out the possibility of supplying Ukraine with its Gripen fighters. Currently, such discussions are ongoing within the framework of the aviation coalition, Kyiv Independent reports.

"The discussions are ongoing, and they are taking place within the framework of the fighter jet coalition," the Swedish Defense Minister said.

He reminded that Stockholm is a member of a corresponding initiative of allied countries created to help Ukraine obtain American-made F-16 fighters and provide the necessary pilot training.

The Swedish minister also emphasized that Europe should increase its aid to Ukraine and "compensate for the declining support."

In this context, Jonson noted positive developments in the defense industry in Sweden and the EU. In particular, Stockholm is investing in the production of 155 mm shells, which Ukraine needs at the front. In addition, Sweden participates in a number of international initiatives aimed at increasing the production of ammunition.

According to him, the Norwegian-Finnish ammunition manufacturer Nammo with plants in Sweden has now more than doubled its own production.
