The European Parliament has blocked the decision to fund the European Council. The reason was the demand to provide Ukraine with additional Patriot air defense systems. This was reported by MEP and former Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt on Twitter (X).

During a speech in the European Parliament, a deputy from the Renew faction proposed to remove the decision to adopt the EU Council budget from the agenda until European countries can find additional Patriot air defense systems for Ukraine.

Verhofstadt added that EU countries have about a hundred Patriot systems, and Ukraine needs seven of them. The call of the European MP was supported by 515 parliamentarians, 62 were against.

"The Parliament refuses to implement the Council's budget until the European Council decides to support Ukraine with additional Patriot missile defense systems," Verhofstadt wrote on social media.
