The Cabinet of Ministers allows the restart of the association agreement with the EU

Ukraine-EU summit gave the opportunity to negotiate the opening of the EU market for Ukrainian products, and the association agreement with the EU may be «restarted».

This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanishina on the sidelines of Parliament.

«There is an idea to vote these decisions in a package. There are also several important bills on the agenda itself. … Given the successful results of the recent Ukraine-EU summit, these legislative initiatives will contribute to successful negotiations on the opening of the market, on access of our products to the EU market, because we are talking about a bill that deals with bringing to European standards,» - Stefanishina said.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, she means a free trade zone.

«In particular, there is a bill on energy efficiency on the agenda. This is part of our negotiations, which concerns the «green» transformation … and as we have agreed, the European Union will support large-scale thermal modernization. So this law will also kick-start European financing and domestic policy. These are changes that proportionally lead to the attraction of additional funding and to the opening of the market for workers,» explained Stefaniscina.

The deputy prime minister confirmed the possibility of restarting the association with the EU and noted that in July 2021 sent a proposal to repeal certain tariff restrictions on food and non-food products.

«We expect that by the end of October, the EU will confirm its willingness to revise these positions. Then whole strata of small and medium-sized businesses will open for themselves the possibility of the European market,» Stefanishina said.
