Poroshenko's lawyer said that the government has not "outgrown" the persecution of the opposition

Lawyer of Petro Poroshenko believes that the authorities are still not ready to abandon the practice of persecution of the opposition. This was stated by the lawyer Ilya Novikov, writes Interfax-Ukraine.

"The question is why the people who communicate with Medvedchuk, who explain to him what he should do to be exchanged, so that Ukraine agreed to give him to his cousin in exchange for one of our defenders, why did they want this particular text he said?"- said Novikov.

In his opinion, these are not Medvedchuk's words now, these are the words of those who wrote these words.

"I am absolutely 100% sure that he was reading from the printed text. And the question is not whether we believe or disbelieve Medvedchuk - that would be a strange question. The question is why this particular decision was made now to announce this particular text through the mouth of Medvedchuk," the lawyer adds.

Also, according to him, they had many questions for the authorities, which they did not ask because they understood that it was not the right time.

"We had hoped that the authorities would treat issues that potentially split society, potentially destroy that unity in the same way. Unfortunately, our opponents seem to have a different view. If the country has outgrown the Scarlet issue, if the country has outgrown many other issues, unfortunately, it has not outgrown the issue of persecution of the opposition, it seems that the opinion of some people in our governing bodies," Novikov concludes.
