Ukrainian government plans to reduce the number of ministries by third, - Shmyhal

The number of ministries in Ukraine may be reduced by a third. The Cabinet of Ministers is working on the creation of the Government Center. This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during a press conference.

"We want to reduce the number of ministries by a third and the number of civil servants," he said.

According to him, the number of ministers should be 15-16. "Accordingly, the number of ministries should be 15-16, no more. This is the optimal number," he added.

Shmyhal said that the government has already started working in this direction, and this year 20 thousand government vacancies have been cut.

"We are working on the creation of the Government Center. The ministries should have a small number of highly qualified specialists who will formulate public policy, and the Government Center should provide appropriate legal steps, support, and prepare the documents required by the ministries in a high quality and quickly," the Prime Minister said.

Answering a question about the fate of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, Shmyhal said: "The Ministry of Veterans' Affairs should exist for the duration of the war and after the war is over. Whether it should be a separate ministry or a powerful part of the state's social policy is a matter of discussion."
