Rada supports draft law: Ukrainians will be able to declare weapons received or found during the war

Ukrainians will be able to declare weapons received or found during the war. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has supported the corresponding draft law in the first reading. This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The main provisions of the draft law:

  • A person who has found or received weapons to defend against Russia's armed aggression must declare them. This procedure will be simplified and free of charge;
  • A citizen must notify the police if he or she finds weapons or ammunition and declare or hand them over within 24 hours;
  • If the found or declared weapon is involved in criminal proceedings, has its markings removed or illegally altered, or has inconsistencies defined by law, it will be seized by the National Police.

Thus, civilians will receive legal guarantees for the legal storage of found weapons for the period of martial law.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Police are currently working with MPs to prepare the draft law for the second reading.
