MEPs supported trade liberalization with Ukraine, but taking into account the interests of EU farmers

Members of the European Parliament at the plenary session amended the renewal of trade liberalization measures for Ukraine to strengthen guarantees for EU farmers. This was reported by the press service of the European Parliament.

MEPs supported the amendments to the European Commission's proposal to suspend import duties and quotas on Ukrainian agricultural exports to the EU for another year - until June 5, 2025 - by 347 votes in favor, 117 against and 99 abstentions.

Thus, MEPs returned the proposal to the Committee on International Trade to start negotiations with the EU Council on the amendments.

The European Parliament noted that the legislation gives the European Commission the authority to take prompt and any necessary measures if there are significant disruptions in the EU market or in the markets of one or more EU countries due to Ukrainian imports.

In a separate vote, the European Parliament supported the extension of the suspension of all duties on imports from Moldova for another year - until July 24, 2025 - without additional restrictions.
