The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy has recognized the former Arch of Friendship of Peoples in Kyiv as an object that is not subject to entry in the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine. The Ministry's press service reported on the relevant order.

"By this decision, the monument has lost its status as a historical monument and can be dismantled," the ministry said.

The MCIP reminded that according to the conclusions of the Expert Commission of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, the Arch of Friendship of Peoples, erected in 1982 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the formation of the USSR and the 65th anniversary of the October 1917 Revolution, belongs to the symbols of Russian imperial policy and is subject to complete dismantling.

Despite its recent renaming as the Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian People, the monument represents only Soviet ideologues and connotations.
