Ukraine Introduces COVID Booster Vaccination for Everyone Over 18

Ukraine is introducing a booster vaccination against COVID for everyone who has previously taken the full course. At the moment we are talking about Ukrainians over the age of 18. This was announced on Facebook by Health Minister Viktor Lyashko.

"I signed an order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine on the introduction of a booster dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 for all those vaccinated from 18 years old, regardless of which vaccine they were vaccinated with," the minister said.

He said the booster dose should increase the effectiveness of the vaccine and give better protection against the new Omicron strain.

The booster dose administration period is 6 to 9 months from the date of the second COVID-19 vaccination.

For the booster dose, Moderna or Pfizer m-RNA vaccines will be preferred, regardless of which vaccine the person was previously vaccinated with.

Those who have received their first two vaccinations with CoronaVac from Sinovac Biotech are also recommended to give the booster dose with Pfizer.

In the absence of mRNA vaccines, the booster dose can be given with another vaccine according to the approved regimens in Ukraine.

Immunocompromised people who are currently receiving an additional dose of COVID-19 vaccine will also be able to receive a booster dose; the optimal period of administration is 3 to 6 months after the additional dose.
