U.S. to announce steps to strengthen European security at NATO summit

The U.S. will announce steps to strengthen European security at the NATO summit in Madrid next week.

U.S. National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby announced the news.

"The U.S. will announce steps to strengthen European security along with anticipated new contributions from allies," he said.

Kirby added that in Madrid next week, Alliance leaders will announce new commitments to strengthen NATO defense and deterrence.

He added that, for the first time, the leaders of the Indo-Pacific region will attend the summit: Australia, Japan, New Zealand and the Republic of Korea.

This makes it clear that "whether in Europe or the Indo-Pacific, the United States and our allies and partners will defend the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity," Kirby stressed.
