The EU Council extended sanctions against Russia until July 2024: Punitive measures for unrecognized invasion

The Council of the European Union has extended sanctions against the Russian Federation for another six months, until July 31, 2024. This was reported by the press service of the Council of the European Union.

The sanctions were first introduced in 2014 and have been significantly expanded since February 2022, after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation. Punitive measures include a wide range of sectoral restrictions, covering trade, finance, technology, dual-use goods, industry, transport and luxury goods.

The EU Council press service also emphasizes additional measures, such as a ban on imports of crude oil and certain petroleum products from Russia to the EU, SWIFT for some Russian banks, and suspension of broadcasting and licenses of some Kremlin-backed disinformation media.

In addition, specific measures have been introduced to strengthen the EU's ability to counter sanctions circumvention.
