Discussed cooperation between Ukraine and the United States in countering energy threats

The day before, Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko held a meeting with US Charge d'Affaires Christina Quinn.

 

The sides discussed the issues of the sustainable passage of the heating season in Ukraine under the conditions of Russia's energy aggression.

 

Herman Galushchenko recalled that Russia had blocked the supply of coal to the country by rail. Ukraine has reoriented to other sources of imports, and the main route of coal supplies is by sea.

 

The meeting also discussed the current situation with a significant reduction in the volume of Russian gas transit through Ukraine.

 

The Minister of Energy noted that the main burden in terms of the heating season 2021-2022 is borne by NAEK Energoatom.

 

In this context, the parties discussed cooperation in the field of ensuring reliable and uninterrupted operation of Ukrainian nuclear power plants during the heating season, including technical support and stable fuel replenishment.

 

Christine Quinn assured that the United States is ready to assist Ukraine in ensuring stable supplies of energy resources, in particular for nuclear power, and strengthening Ukraine's energy security.

 

Acting president of NNEGC Energoatom Peter Kotin, who took part in the meeting, thanked the American side for support and testified to the readiness of the company`s specialists for further cooperation with the US specialists.

 

The parties paid special attention at the meeting to the issue of synchronization of the Ukrainian energy system with the European ENTSO-E.
