Taiwan's defense ministry says Chinese drills have invaded the island's territory

Taiwan's Defense Ministry said Wednesday that Chinese military exercises have violated U.N. rules, invaded Taiwan's territorial space and are a blockade of its sky and sea amid high tensions when U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visits the island, Reuters reported.

Taiwan's Defense Ministry said the island will firmly defend its security, oppose any "violating territorial sovereignty" moves and raise its level of military readiness, guided by the principle of not calling for war.

During a press conference on Wednesday, the Defense Ministry added that China continues to wage psychological warfare against Taiwan and that citizens should not believe rumors or report any fake news to the government.

Nancy Pelosi's plane landed in Taiwan on August 2. She arrived there despite China's reservation, which considers the island its own.

Against this background, the Chinese Defense Ministry promised "targeted military operations," and the Chinese army announced military exercises in six areas around Taiwan from August 4 to 7.
