The EU is "collecting evidence" about Iranian drones and will be ready to react - Borrell

The European Union is collecting evidence on the use of Iranian drones by Russia and will be ready to react after the completion of this process. This was emphasized by the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, after the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the European Union on Monday.

According to him, the Ministers were informed about the use of kamikaze drones made in Iran by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba.

"The issue of Russia's use of drones allegedly supplied by Iran in the war with Ukraine was also discussed by ministers... We are very closely monitoring the use of these drones. We are gathering evidence and will be ready to respond with the tools at our disposal. As I said, we are continuing gathering evidence," Borrell said.

To a clarifying question, what other evidence does the EU need to confirm that the drones are Iranian, he answered that the process of "gathering evidence" is taking place at the request of some member states.

"This process must be based on evidence. The evidence is there. It was provided by special services, in particular, Ukrainian. Some members of the council called for the evidence to be collected in a coordinated and comprehensive way. Iran categorically denies, including to me personally, that any the drones were directed for use in Ukraine. However, the member states asked us to collect all the evidence, and on this basis the work continues," he added.

Borrell also added that in the event of evidence confirming the use of Iranian drones by Russia, he does not see any obstacles that could slow down the EU's response.
