The EU Council completely stopped the simplified visa regime with Russia

The Council of the European Union finally decided to completely stop the simplified visa regime with Russia.

"Today (September 9, 2022 - ed.), the Council adopted a decision that completely suspends the validity of the agreement on the simplification of the visa regime between the EU and Russia. Therefore, the general rules of the visa code will apply to citizens of Russia," the message reads.

The decision will come into effect on September 12, 2022. The complete suspension of the simplified visa regime applies to all categories of travelers coming to the EU for a short time.

What awaits Russians: the visa fee will increase from 35 to 80 euros, the visa processing time will increase, and the rules for issuing multiple-entry visas will be tightened.

"The Visa Facilitation Agreement provides privileged access to the EU for citizens of trusted partners with whom we share common values. With its unprovoked and unjustified war of aggression, in particular, indiscriminate attacks on the civilian population, Russia has undermined this trust and thaw. Today's decision is direct a consequence of Russia's actions and another proof of our unwavering commitment to Ukraine and its people," Czech Minister of Internal Affairs Vit Rakushan said.
